Work in Riverbank Park will coincide with in-river restoration. Genesee County Parks is working with the City of Flint and Communities First to host community charrettes to have the community guide the design for improvements.

Phases I and II have been completed, covering 24 acres from Chevrolet Avenue and Glenwood towards Stevenson Street. Phase III will cover over 9 acres from the corner of Stevenson Street and Kearsley, and will be complete in 2017. The work on Phase IV will take place from 2018-2019 and will cover the remainder of the site.

The superstructure of the Hamilton Dam will be removed using a 3 million dollar grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resource’s Dam Management program. The concrete weir at the site of the Hamilton Dam will remain in place, and temporary sheet piling will be placed upstream. This will keep the water level and current day levels. The sheet piling will be addressed during the next phase of in-river restoration.
